Associazione Eudaimonia

Associazione Eudaimonia is a non-profit unincorporated association under Italian law, established on 18 August 2026 in Montesilvano (Abruzzo, Italy). It works in the fields of international youth mobility, non-formal education and active European citizenship, with two specific areas of expertise: artificial intelligence literacy and its ethical use (AI Act, GDPR, human in the loop, the social and legal implications of automated systems), and environmental sustainability with particular regard to marine and coastal ecology. The association is administered by a three-member Governing Board serving the 2026–2028 term; all offices are unpaid. Our work is organised in six areas:

• International mobility of young people and youth workers

  Mobility is the instrument, not the prize: changing context forces you to renegotiate habits, language and roles, and that is where learning happens.

• Non-formal education and recognition of competences

  What you learn outside a classroom only exists if someone can name it. Our job is to make it explicit and usable.

• Active European citizenship

  Many young people perceive the European Union as a distant apparatus. The remedy is not explaining it better: it is experiencing it.

• Digital and artificial intelligence literacy

  This is the area where our expertise is most specific. Knowing how to use a tool is not the same as understanding it: we work on the second level: how AI systems work, who answers for them, which rights they touch, and what it means to use them in an ethically defensible way.

• Inclusion and equal opportunities

  A project is inclusive if its design is, not its communication. The test is simple: who would be unable to take part, and why?

• Environmental sustainability and marine ecology

  It cuts across everything we do: every international mobility carries a real environmental cost. But it is also a subject in itself, and for an association based on the Adriatic the natural starting point is the sea: the Torre del Cerrano Marine Protected Area lies a few kilometres from our registered office.

The association was established on 18 August 2026 and has not yet completed a granted project: we would rather say so up front. What it brings to a consortium is the personal track record of the people who run it and a precise thematic competence. The Governing Board combines more than twenty years of designing, managing and reporting European training funds (including the coordination of the transnational activities of the EQUAL Community Initiative with France, Portugal, Greece and Lithuania) with academic and professional grounding in responsible artificial intelligence: AI Act, GDPR, explainable AI, human in the loop, bias and risk assessment. Added to that: direct youth work with teenagers, three working languages spoken inside the board without intermediaries, and roots in Abruzzo, a region thinly represented in European programmes, with coastline, marine protected areas and Apennine parks less than an hour from the registered office. The association is registered on the EU Funding & Tenders Portal and is operational as a partner, sending or hosting organisation.

• An under-represented territory

  Abruzzo and Italy's central Adriatic coast have few organisations active in European programmes. We give access to a pool of participants that big-city organisations do not reach, and to coastline, marine protected areas and Apennine parks within an hour's reach, where environmental activities happen in the field.

• Three working languages, for real

  Italian, English and Spanish spoken inside the Governing Board, with nobody in between. For participants' other languages we bring in native-speaking collaborators when a project calls for it: we would rather claim three and keep them than promise eight.

• Real expertise in responsible AI

  Not just media literacy: AI ethics, the AI Act and the GDPR, human in the loop, bias and risk assessment. These are the subjects our Governing Board studies and works on: an Erasmus+ horizontal priority for which many consortia struggle to find prepared partners.

• A young board

  The people designing are the age of the people targeted. It shortens the distance between what an application says and what participants actually need.

• Inclusion designed, not declared

  Selection criteria, cost coverage and individual support defined at writing stage, not improvised while running.

• Administrative readiness

  Signature powers already vested in the President, tax code and OID on the Funding & Tenders Portal already live: when a deadline lands there is nothing internal to untangle.

• Daniele Mariani, President and legal representative

  Double degree in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Philosophy of AI at Sapienza and LUMSA; currently reading for an MSc in Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence & Law across the Universities of Milan, Milan-Bicocca and Pavia. Worked on explainable AI and AI Act and GDPR compliance at Deloitte and at an AI startup in Madrid. His subject is responsible AI: how systems decide, where they fail, and who answers for them.

• Marco Rana, Vice-President and Secretary

  BA in Philosophy with a minor in Economics at the Università della Svizzera italiana, with a thesis on the ethics of social media; currently reading for an MSc in Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence, AI and Law track, between Milan and Pavia. Works as a consultant on the adoption of AI in legal practice and volunteered as a mentor to teenagers in Lugano. His subject is how technologies reshape rules and social habits.

• Lorenza Piarulli, Treasurer

  Law degree and a postgraduate master's in the economics of cooperation. A vocational training specialist, with the functions of direction, service delivery, coordination and financial reporting within the EQUAL Community Initiative, Actions 1, 2 and 3, on the labour-market inclusion of disadvantaged people, and coordination of the transnational activities with France, Portugal, Greece and Lithuania. She brings the association the part of European projects that frightens everyone else: design, management and financial reporting.
